The French Revolution In San DomingoT. Lothrop Stoddard
The book was first published in 1914 and was Lothrop Stoddard first book. The book was also his doctoral thesis which he defended at Harvard University and then became very popular. The book is about race in general and in particular about the race war that was fought in San Domingo in the 1790s after the French Revolution.
The inhabitants slaughtered the white and was then able to celebrate its independence, liberty, fraternity and equality. This was followed by fifteen years of chaos and bloody conflicts. The result was finally say the least dysfunctional Haiti today. In addition to the exciting story of the Revolution in San Domingo Lothrop discuss issues of race, class, colonization and motherland. The book is not flattering to the white that is widely sounded developments lead to their own slaughter on the island and the question arises as to the white of today should also take greater responsibility to the West’s development.
